The Good Neighbors by Holly Black & Ted Naifeh

Rue's mother has disappeared, her father is accused of murdering one of his college students, and now Rue thinks she sees fairies, demons, and all sorts of other impossible creatures inhabiting the "normal" world around her. This graphic novel by the author of Tithe creates a spooky blend of the supernatural and the disturbing elements of reality until neither Rue nor the reader knows what's real or what's really going on.

Naifeh's evocative black and white drawings are the perfect accompaniment to Black's dark story of despair and hope. The subtitle on the cover is Book One: KIN; be prepared for the cliffhanger at the end that will leave you longing for the next installment in the series.
